Spoiler caution: This article incorporates spoilers for Season 5 of The Handmaid's Tale.

Ever since Serena was taken into custody in The Handmaid's Tale, fans have wanted her to be sent again to Gilead and was a handmaid. As a long way as the show goes, that's a fate worse than death for most ladies in Gilead. And Serena, who was once as soon as married to a high-ranking commander, would undergo a ton in such a function.

But will Serena in reality be a handmaid in The Handmaid's Tale? As much as all of us want to see Serena pay for her crimes and her excessive movements towards not best June but different ladies, turning her into a handmaid does not alternate any of that. However, within the Sept. 28 episode, Serena comes the closest she ever has to being become a handmaid.

Will Serena be a handmaid in 'The Handmaid's Tale'?

When Serena returns to Gilead for Fred's funeral, she assumes she will likely be taken critically as a girl, despite the rustic's prejudices towards females. When Commander Putnam tells her they have a new and vital way for her to serve Gilead, it in the beginning sounds like Serena will likely be carted away and became a handmaid.

But that's not the case. Instead, she's meant to be the face of Gilead whilst she is living in Toronto. It's basically a manner to shut her up and stay her out of the commanders' hair for now. But, by the tip of the Sept. 28 episode, it's transparent that Serena isn't secure on her own in Canada. So she is taken in by the Wheelers, who're extra than able to adapt to the Gilead life.

I lowkey want they'd’ve made Serena a handmaid. She’s betrayed Gilead a number of occasions & used to be driving for Canada right up until they charged her ass. Do her such as you did Esther. #TheHandmaidsTale

Could Serena be the Wheelers' handmaid? It doesn't seem like they expect to take her child (but). However, Serena is put in a room upstairs, no longer in contrast to June's when she used to be Serena and Fred's handmaid.

And Mrs. Wheeler seems to want to adhere to stereotypical gender norms in her home. Even despite the fact that Serena isn't was a handmaid in Gilead, this is a great comfort prize for audience who sought after that.

Some fans concept Serena and Lawrence would get married.

When Serena returns to Gilead, albeit quickly, she tells Tuello that she believes her state of affairs of being an unwed mom will soon alternate. And, through conversations she has with Lawrence, it seems that that she expects him, a widower, to marry her.

It would protected her a soft spot in Gilead as soon as again and it will lend a hand Lawrence be seen as more of an equivalent if he used to be a married man.

Unfortunately for Serena, that doesn't occur. In fact, Lawrence turns out very uninterested in marrying her, or any person for that subject. And now, it looks as if Serena is about to get a taste of her personal medication as she lives beneath the Wheelers' roof, pregnant and on my own.

Who are the Wheelers in 'The Handmaid's Tale'?

Alanis Wheeler is first observed in The Handmaid's Tale Season 5 when she approaches June and child Nichole on a playground. Alanis is aware of Nichole by means of name and she calls June a whore. It's an uncomfortable scene, but person who makes sense, given Serena's supporters in Toronto. Alanis is obviously one in all them.

Or, slightly, she supports what Serena stands for. But that would come back to bite Serena as she turns into a guest in the Wheelers' house.

Watch The Handmaid's Tale on Wednesdays on Hulu.
