Nobody knows for sure why some otherwise wholesome people react so significantly to this virus. Researchers have most effective recognized of this novel coronavirus since overdue 2019, so research of its results on other populations are still ongoing. However, there are some theories.

One avenue of research may contain sequencing the genomes of younger patients who did no longer have underlying health conditions to determine whether or not they have genetic markers in common that can have resulted in their critical reactions. Another concept is that for some young patients, the severity of the response might be due to not a suppressed immune system but a hyper-reactive one.

The phenomenon is known as a "cytokine storm" because it's caused when the cytokine proteins which might be part of the immune system reason an overreaction to an unfamiliar pathogen, similar to a pandemic. But in its fight to suppress the foreign invader, the immune machine additionally assaults the lungs, which might lead to the serious damage doctors have been seeing on scans, as well as the extreme respiratory misery, clotting, and other problems.
